9 Social Medial Dos and Don'ts for Student-Athletes

The article that I found was "9 Social Media Dos and Don'ts for Student-Athletes." The article starts out with a very profound statement from a journalism professor in Missouri that tweeted, "Social media is like a gun. Smart people will use it as a useful tool, not-so-smart people will shoot themselves in the foot with it." How true is that statement not just for athletes on social media but for everyone on social media in general. The article goes one to say that social media is a tool not a toy, nothings private on the internet, if you retweet it you own it and social media branding. The article was relevant to me because as a cross country runner at UNK we have had numerous speeches from athletic representatives about how to conduct yourself in the cyber world.  What I like most about this article though is how after it gives the four major warnings of social media it goes on to tell you what you should be posting on social media. This article was a great article to help keep the foot injuries from happening on social media.

  1. Hey Alex, I like the article a lot and how i can relate it since I am a collegiate athlete. I myself have not really ran into any issues with social media and being an athlete, mainly because my coach has a strict policy to post anything bad or if we do he talks to us right away.
