Module 3 Post 2

This article really caught my attention in regards to how politics and social media mix. It shows not how social media helps a candidate but rather how to organize political protests. Where individuals would send out mass text and social media posts simultaneously to organize themselves. It allows for everyone to access the information if they so choose to do it. By using this tool it has really evolved this sort of process led by citizens to bring to light facts that everyone needs to know about their country or government. However the article goes on to say that these attempts also fail quite violently. In my opinion the need for social media and politics to mix is according to time. Many gather information about news or politics online through articles that are just a click away. Most of this news is quite important when wanting to keep up with current events. Because of this it is obvious that social media does hold a certain power within the political realm.

  1. I just read another post about social media and politics from Dina Dowden just a few minutes ago. I find it interesting to compare the two and if you have time you may want to check that out. This has a more positive spin than the other article did and I completely see both points. Dina's article was about how politics are being ruined by social media and this one shows how it can help candidates. Dina's was more about how the validity of political assumptions are being lowered. I could easily see how these two overlap though and you even showed a bit of that in your summary. Very interesting compare and contrast.
