Luke Friesen: Module 3 Blog 3

Social media presents a whole new realm of monitoring and education for parents. Since it is not something most grew up with, they have to learn it now. Many parents don't fully understand it, so kids can have somewhat of an advantage as far as the activity they participate in on social media sites. For the younger generation of parents, there is a new level of discernment that some need to learn. The immaturity of some parents is much more prominent, and more and more people can see this by what they post. The author of this article has seen pictures of potty training children, while they would never ever post a picture of themselves using the restroom (some still would), but what makes it ok? Two of the subheadings of this article are "Craving for Fame," and "Boasting Without Boarders." Parents could be compromising what is missing from their past from their parents or from their spouses. There is such a need and drive to be known and pride to have their kids known and succeeding more than another that much of the boasting occurs on social media.

  1. Looking at my parents, I know that they have very little idea about social media and all that it entails. However, as the younger generation starts to have children, they know a lot more about it and are able to keep a better eye on their children. However, as you stated some parents are way too open on social media and they just do not know where to draw the line. There is less and less privacy when people share all this information.
