This article rung some very alarming bells in my head as a current and future voter in America. Social media has begun to take over the way that our perceptions are created about future candidates. A day that many would say that media played its first role is when Harding became the first president to be heard on the radio. Remember the days when a citizen would turn on the radio and tune it to the debates of the past. Or the way America must have felt when watching Nixon and Kennedy in the first televised debate. The way that this shaped the voters opinions was obvious. With Kennedy's charisma Nixon would certainly have a hard time swaying the American people. And now we have social media becoming the new norm for how political news is shared to a large portion of American citizens. With this trend becoming every day life it is easy to say that change is good but with change also comes a sort of desensitization to politics. Back in the old days kids stood on corners waving newspapers saying extra extra presidential debates are tonight! And now it becomes something in the back of many peoples heads. Social media has taken an obvious effect according to this article. Back in the old presidential campaigns there was no way to really know how many people believed in what you said. And now its a nice visible number on an politicians Facebook or Twitter. Donald Trump has used this tool to his advantage in many scenarios. Trump has over 3,840,00 followers on Facebook as of today 9/24/15. 3,840,000 people! Nebraska has around 1,800,000 people. You do the math.
