Michael Wiese 1-3

http://fortune.com/2015/09/02/twitter-news-study/

This article is called Twitter needs the news and the news needs Twitter.  The article talks about how many people use Twitter for their news.  In the article it gives many different stats, 90% of people use Twitter for news. 74% of people do so every day. About 40% of people said they use Twitter to be alerted to breaking news, and news in generally. 73% of people who use the service for news follow individual journalists, writers and commentators, and 62% follow institutional or corporate news accounts.  When Twitter came out they did not except that people would use it for news, Twitter realized it could be a great news outlet when the plane crash into the Hudson River.

I picked this article because I follow many different news outlets on Twitter.  I really like Twitter when it comes to breaking news because it is a great way to see what people are thinking about the news in real time.  I too like to join some discussions about the news on Twitter.

  1. Twitter is such a versatile source of media, I remember when I was in high school I did an internship where a twitter was required because that way all the interns would follow the leader, and he would be able to tweet and all of our phones would get the announcement of where to be at what time, but this was obviously back when mass texts were limited to 10 people. So it is interesting to hear how twitter has in some areas become a real source of news for some people! This was great!
