Social media: how does it affect our mental health and well-being?

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/275361.php?page=2

In my introduction video, I mentioned that social media has become a fairly negative place to be mixed into.  So, I felt like that would be a good article to read into a bit.  The article states that "In 2012, Anxiety UK conducted a survey on social media use and its effects on emotions.
The survey found that 53% of participants said social media sites had changed their behavior, while 51% of these said the change had been negative."  I am actually surprised this isn't a higher percentage.  I feel people tend to use social media to hide and want to sound so big and tough, when in reality, that isn't even close to the person they really are.  Besides all the negativity, I felt this article touched a little on how much people rely on social media and how much users log-in throughout the day.  Do you think your school work has suffered because of social media?  What about your job performance?

  1. I do believe that school and work performance can suffer when social media is not used appropriately. I know when I was in high school kids would hide their phones and text throughout the day. Nowadays, while kids are still not allowed to use their phones in class they are allowed to use other devices such as iPads. Using these devices to access social media within schools can be an excellent teaching technique. However, I believe it should be used sparingly so performance does not suffer.
