How many "friends" do we have on Facebook? How many TRUE friends do we have on Facebook? How many of our friends are old connections that we know we should let go, but just can't seem to let go? How often does that old "flame" reach out to us when we thought we had moved on? Although it's a cliché situation, it doesn't change that it is often the elephant in the room in most serious relationships. This article digs into the details and statistics of the issues of trust and the arguments that arise over social media, especially Facebook, in relationships. Numerous couples have cited Facebook in divorce court as a primary source of conflict, and the secrecy that Facebook allows, which plays along with the anonymity of social media sites. It is not to say that Facebook can't be a positive thing for couples to promote their pride in their relationship, their public profession of love for each other (even though some go overboard), or their celebrations as a couple (i.e. dating, engagement, marriage, new birth, etc.).
