The link above is to an article that shows two stories of social media involvement in business marketing. The first story is about Hallmark and how they had a defective toy which people posted about on social media. Hallmark saw this and was able to fix the toy and also send everyone who had a defective toy a letter of apology and a coupon for the next generation. The other story is about Progressive and how they were accused of not being fair in a life insurance policy. This then created a storm on social media, which Progressive sent out a generic statement to everyone unlike Hallmark who personalized theirs. The article focuses on social listening as business's who listen to their customers will learn a lot about what is wrong and what the customer wants. Pleasing the customers should be the goal of every company. I think that this article is very relevant to this class as social media in business's is a growing trend.
I think this is a good article because it shows the power that social media has on reputations. As companies see that something negative has been posted about them, they are prompted to action to avoid a bad reputation. This can be a good motivation for the positive to put the company to action. Social media allows information to be spread so quickly, that negative news can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time.
