An article on medicalnewtoday.com entitled Social Media: how does it affect our mental health and well being, is a very interesting read. While the beginning of this article seems to say that social media is over a negative medium for people to use later in the article it actually says that the positive feed back people receive on social media actually boosts self esteem. While people are in fact addicted to social media they can be used to make themselves feel better. There is still a time and place for social media it will still grow and hopefully it will be better used and less people will get on them for negative reasons and instead make comments that boost themselves and others.

I think it is extremely true that people are addicted to social media. I myself actually log on to social media more times throughout the day than I probably should or need to. I do think that social media can have both negative and positive effects on people. As you stated positive effects can be an increase in self esteem through getting numerous likes or comments on a post. This can also have negative effects to if a person does not receive the amount of likes or comments that they were hoping they would get.
ReplyDeleteI agree that people are addicted to social media, and I think that people rely to much on it for their self esteem. Their mental help is not being helped by this. Some people who post want retweets, likes, comments, etc. for the things they do. Relationships and activities are then liked, and then they feel the okay because people are making the actions okay. Instead of getting the mental health they need, they are putting it in the hands of people that only see one side of it. Encouraging people to seek internal happiness and positive real relationships will help correct this. Also, encouraging people to seek a counselor would probably be the best choice if the problem is serious.
