Josh Mooney-Module#1 Article#1-Why social media sites want to handle our money

My first article talks about why Twitter and Facebook want to handle our money now with "buy" buttons which allow users to make purchases directly through twitter without having to go to another site like Amazon. Facebook also now uses this feature with its own "buy" button which allows users to complete purchases without leaving the network. I understand this makes things much easier and quicker for us as consumers, but when are we taking things too far? Its obvious that these social networks will be making a small cut from the purchases that are re-directed through their site or why would they do this? I feel like our generation is all about making things easier and quicker, which is great in a lot of ways, but with all this information online aren't we putting ourselves at a higher risk? And lets be honest, I feel that these social networking sites have already found plenty of ways to make money off of the users, and this might just be another golden opportunity for them to get our cash in there pockets.

  1. Josh, I read your article and then your summary of the post and couldn't' agree more. Are we as a society becoming to lazy to go onto another website to purchase our goods? I think we try to simplify things to the point where if it takes us more time than we want to do a simple task then in our minds "it's not worth it". What's wrong with taking a little extra time to do something so we aren't so reliant on certain websites.
