Luke Friesen Module 5: Give Me a Hi-5

You've heard of Tinder, eHarmony, Match.com and sites that help you meet people and possibly your "soulmate," but have you heard of or used Hi-5? Hi-5 has previously been a social networking site geared towards gamers, but has transitioned into a dating site. It is free to set up, and you can filter your news feed to a specific group or gender. It is very similar to Facebook as far as what you can do with your profile. It has one unique feature where you can "purchase" friends and be purchased with the result of increased credibility to your profile. You can also use it like Tinder and say yes or no to potential matches for dates if that's what you want to use the site for.

  1. I think that it is pretty rare that Hi-5 had switched it's focus. It makes me wonder where they had gone "wrong" the first time. Maybe they weren't getting enough users, I thought that it was interesting that you can purchase friends. Do you really need pay for friends, or is this just a word that they use? I think it would be fun researching this platform some more!

  2. I did this as my first article...I never read anything about it being a dating site. Too funny! Not that I don't believe you, but when I researched this, I also read how it switched from more of a social place, to more of a gaming platform, but never saw the dating aspect! That is a very big change...not only once, but twice. I wonder what the motivation was behind all the changes, more specifically why it chose to target a difference set of audience in such a drastic way.
