Seven Myths About Social Media and Relationships
I found this article to be very interesting because most of the things I have found about social media and relationship is negative. The first myth is social media are destroying our social skills and replacing offline relationships. The say this because Social media like a "glue for the times between fact to face. The second myth is you have to be on all social networks. Thats not true because people should only be on networks for what they are trying to get done. The third myth is you don't have to be on social media at all to have a full and happy life. They say if you're a professional, people expect a web presence. No presence looks sketchy now. Myth four is people don't tell the truth on social media. Research suggest that people are generally fairly truthful online. The fifth Myth is you can't control your social media presence. They say think before speak, and learn privacy setting for each platform. Myth 6 online relationships aren't "real". They say online connections can provide very meaningful links when nothing else is available. The final myth is social media don't do any good. When in fact social media have enable people to access emergency resources and donate money in crises.
I think that it is good to put social media in a good light. Reading through the myths opened my eyes and think yes social media is a positive thing. It also showed me many ways that social media can help a relationship.
I agree that this sheds some light on the positive aspects of social media. It opens our eyes to into the myths we hear about social media. However, some of the points in the article can be taking with a grain of salt because not ever situation is the same. Hopefully, there can be a balance between social media and everyday life.
