Chris Fakkema: Module 3, Blog #4

This article is about how social media and mobile technology, have affected the dating lives of today’s teenagers. The Pew Research Center surveyed approximately 1,000 teenagers to determine how social media has affected their romantic lives, and the statistics are given in this short article.  Rather than actually explaining how social media affects the romantic lives of teenager, this article includes bullet points stating different facts.  For example, 59 percent of those with relationship experience, feel that social media enables them to feel more connected to what is happening in the daily life of their significant other.  Teens seem to spend more time communicating with their significant other, through text messaging, then followed by phone conversation, spending time together, and spending time on social media. Since this article talks about social media and mobile technology, and how it affects the dating life of teenagers, I feel that it is relevant to this week’s topic.

  1. Chris,

This is a very interesting concept. There is no doubt that social media and technology have influenced relationships. Since teenagers are quite influential, it makes sense that the statistics are so high. One number that really caught my attention was that 44% of teenagers feel closer to their significant other with the help of social media. I would like to know not only how many teenagers think this way, but also why. Knowing the reasons behind these numbers would be interesting.
