Social media can be harmful for some people that don't control themselves on it. Some users have gotten fired whether or not there post was about their work. Users who use social media can use profane language on their accounts and get themselves fired. Lying about being sick or writing negative things about their employers can cause difficult work problems like betting terminated. The employees learn in this instance that they are always working for their employees, and their actions will follow them at work.

Haley,
ReplyDeleteI found this article to be very interesting! I don't necessarily condone what people say on social media sites. However, when users post things on social media, they can't really assume that their posts are going to stay private. The Internet is a public sphere, and even when posting to one's 'friends', it doesn't necessarily mean that it is going to stay within their circle. When considering how many friends an average individual has on a typical social media account, it is highly unlikely, that anything posted is going to stay completely private. I think that users need to be aware of this, prior to posting anything, that could possibly get them fired from work.
I think this article is very fascinating. I think that there should be repercussions if people are posting things on social media that are not appropriate. I also think that there is no such thing as privacy on the internet.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very good article! It's sad that someone could lose a job over social media but at the same time, you have to look at what kind of people they are if they are posting unprofessional things having to do with their work environment. I agree with Chris that people can't always guarantee that their posts are going to stay private, nothing on the internet is ever private. I think that goes along with social media platforms constantly upgrading their security and privacy measures.
