Chris Fakkema- Module 5, Blog 1

Yik Yak is a mobile social media application for IOS and Android operating systems. Essentially, it is a local bulletin board for your users to post anonymously. Users are able to see recent posts from other users within a designated area, without having to know them.  However, individuals also have the capability to see what users are posting in other areas of the country. Users vote on posts, known as ‘upvotes’ or ‘downvotes’, within their designated area. Yik Yak is a free mobile social media app, meaning that it can only be used on mobile devices.  I do not foresee my NPO using the Yik Yak application, as it seems to be directed more to high school and college students. As I previously stated, this app is anonymous, so users do not know whose post they are reading (unless they specifically state their name, phone number, etc).  Therefore, it would be even more difficult for the Ark of Buffalo County to gain any sort of benefit from using this social media application.

  1. I agree in regards of helping with your NPO. Yik Yak is really just a useless website for maketing. It is, however, incredibly easy to use and what not. Overall, I struggle to see the point of Yik Yak as it seems like it is usually used for gossip and degrading of others. For a website like Yik Yak I see the sustainability to be very low, in my opinion.
