Tyler Walker Module 5 Post 1

Kik is a instant messaging social media platform that allows people to send text, photo, and video. The ease of use is simple for a person with average technology skills. This application can be downloaded to different devices such as; computers, smartphones, and tablet devices. The application lets you create a profile similar to other social media platforms but is not as extensive as Facebook. There are other applications that can be downloaded and paired with Kik. For example, they have a video applications download that allows the user to use Kik to video chat. This would not be a useful social media platform for a nonprofit organization because it is centered on communicating social with other people. There are a few was it could be used but it would be best to find another social media platform.

  1. Tyler, I have heard of Kik before, but I have never used it personally. It sounds like a good way to stay in contact if you are without a cell connection, but still have WiFi. Although it can be useful, I don't think it would be very useful for my NPO. I don't think having a different way to send individual messages to one person at a time would be useful, although it would be nice for me to use!

  2. I too have heard of Kik. I have never used it either but I have seen people using it before. I believe that it is for a younger audience that does not have cell phones but iPods or iPads. After looking on the website I definitely think that it has its benefits for those that use it. My NPO is the Arc of Buffalo County and I do not think that they could benefit from this social media, because it seems more like a messaging system.
