Logan Yager- Module 3 Post #3

http://psychcentral.com/lib/social-medias-impact-on-relationships/

This article discusses the difference between real life and social media relationships. It discusses that being lonely and having less relationships can lead to an earlier death. This leads to people leading lives based more around relationships on social media. This allows people to cover up any insecurities or true qualities that would be found in a real life relationship. This makes relationships on social media much less intimate than those in real life. If people are more apt to seek out relationships on the Internet then they may have a false sense of self since these qualities aren't as readily presented.

The article also states that the majority of people mostly add people that they have real life relationships with on social media. This allows them to have a balance between social media and real life. For some individuals, however, friends aren't always people that they know. With such a huge reach it's very easy for people to add friends that they don't even know. This allows them to put on a false front and seem like someone that they really aren't. This can be seen through fake dating profiles, Facebook profiles, and many others. This behavior causes much more bad then it does good. Overall, social media can be good for relationships, but shouldn't be seen as the sole source for conducting them.

  1. Logan,
You make some very good points about how people are able to put on a false front on social media. People need to be to be themselves no matter what. Also some people need to go out and hang out with friends and get to know people the old fashion way instead of relying on social media so much.

  2. I think that many online relationships can be very superficial. It's easy to connect with these people but it can be more difficult to connect on a deeper level through social media. Some people do have very intimate online relationships but it is a little more difficult to find these.
