Chris Fakkema: Module 5, Blog 2- Xing

How many of you have heard of the social media site Xing?  Similar to LinkedIn, Xing is a career-oriented social networking site. This social media platform is based out of Hamburg, Germany, and was founded in 2003. Xing claims to be the largest business network in German-speaking countries, but the platform is also available is number of different languages.  Xing is a free social media platform, but also allows members the ability to upgrade, and choose a premium membership. The basic membership package allows users to create a profile page, and send invitations to contacts. The premium membership package features professional networking capabilities, including the ability to keep track of profile visitors, and the option to send messages to anyone on the site. Xing is available with internet access on personal computers, mobile phones, PDA’s, and smart phones. Xing is a relatively easy social media platform to use, and has an array of helpful tips to get started.  However, the Xing social media platform seems to be designated for European clientele, and I do not think that my non-profit organization (The Ark of Buffalo County), would benefit from the platform.

  1. I have never heard of Xing. I wonder how successful it is compared to LinkedIn. I do not think my my NPO would benefit from this either. However, it might be a way to try to get more customers, if they wanted to reach people all over the world.
