Logan Yager- Module 3 Post #4

http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2012/04/social-medias-small-positive-role-in-human-relationships/256346/

This article discusses how social media is capable of having a positive impact on human relationships. Despite all of the essays and articles stating that social media is driving relationships apart, the article discusses how it can in fact be a force for good. Other people will argue against social media being positive, but the article states that newspapers, television, and other outlets do the same thing to people. People who have difficulties with socializing face-to-face may find comfort in themselves and their social skills by beginning to express themselves via social media. This can allow them to ease into the real life social scene.

The article also discusses how the older generations are now becoming much more involved with social media. They are able to reconnect with friends that they haven't talked to in years and see what them and their family have been up to. Also, people with disabilities are able to connect with friends or others with similar disabilities. This opens up a whole new world to individuals who could otherwise be left behind.

  1. I found it interest too that many of the articles have had a bad impact on relationships. I had to look hard to find one that had positives about them. I agree that the other types of media do the same thing to people. I thought it was good that the older people are starting to use social media to stay in touch with their friends and family.

  2. I think that generally the idea that people have on the subject of social media and relationships is bad. I personally think that it can go either way depending on how you manage your time. Social media gives us the chance to connect with people all over the world. Because of social media I am friends with a girl from Ireland that I have never met before in my life. It allows us to connect with people who have common interests. People who have a hard time finding friends and making relationships in their every day lives can easily have access to all the people in the world. You can't tell me that there isn't at least one other person in the world that likes the same thing as you. Social media can destroy relationships but that is only if you let it.
