http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/249747

I may be 22 years old, but I am not that tech savoy at all. It seems every day I am finding something out. What attracted me to this article is the fact that what we might think social media is, is actually changing more then we think. This article lists five trends reshaping social media. Their first one was that Facebook is actually moving toward a more alder demographic. I believe that one, my grandma and grandpa know how to run Facebook better then I do. But they live 8 hours away from any of their grandchild, so they are able to communicate with a few of them that are harder to get in contact with over the phone. The second trend was the future is handheld. Every day their are news apps that are created to make it easier to manage our lives by the 5x5 inch device in our hands. Trend three was social networks are becoming search engines. Some days I find it easier to look for stores or certain little businesses on Facebook then Google. My sister plays volleyball in college and it is easier for me to search her team on Facebook then their own website. Trend four says that politics will play out on social media. Half or seventy-five percent of our politicians are on social media. They are able to reach a greater demographic or the US population thru social media then on national TV. I have no doubt that it is easier to debate or talk through certain issues on social networks. Trend five is big date is used to personalize and culture is king. These days it is all about making the customer have a great time in your store or on your app.

Social Media

While looking for articles for this blog post I found one that has to deal with the correct ways to use social media in businesses. This article is entitled The Right Way to Network and is published on the website Entrepreneur.com. During my reading of this article it discusses that social networking has become a very important way for businesses and people looking for a certain thing to find each other. It discusses groups and discussions as well as fan pages. While this seems like an article for only businesses I believe that everyone can use this information even myself when I become a teacher in the future. It is important for everyone to know how to make things accessible for anyone who needs to have the knowledge of what is happening. Layne Rogers Module #1 Blog #3

While researching for my final article for this module, I came across an article about the Video Music Awards and social media. According to the article, this is the first year that there were not as many viewers compared to the posts on social media. The article stated 2.2 million people sent out 21.4 million tweets about the award show, this does not include other social media sites such as Facebook or Reddit. This just emphasizes the fact that we no longer have to watch a specific show, watch a certain debate, or read the newspaper to know what is going on in the world. We can simply go on social media and know the highlights of what has happened within the past few days; whether this is a good or bad thing is up for you to decide.

Chris Fakkema- Module 1: Article 2

In this article, the author, Daniel Kushner, explains five myths of social media marketing. Kushner starts the article off by stating that business to business (B2B) social media has received bad recognition in the marking community. A recent report shows that several B2B companies have failed to generate sufficient content, in order to successfully engage their clients, and because of this, they are losing sales and buyers. Kushner goes on in the article to persuade his readers and try to debunk common myths related to B2B marketing. The first myth that Kushner debunks is that social media is only for business to consumer (B2C) marketing. He states that B2B technology buyers actually use double that of the average U.S. adult. Social media is being used more frequently in B2B purchasing decisions and the trend is only on the incline. A few of the other myths that Kushner touches on, are B2C strategies can be applied to B2B marketing strategies, as well as the myth about revealing secrets to competitors.  This article is an interesting read, and touches on some of the same main points that were discussed in the opening chapter of the Social Media Bible.

9 Social Medial Dos and Don'ts for Student-Athletes

The article that I found was "9 Social Media Dos and Don'ts for Student-Athletes." The article starts out with a very profound statement from a journalism professor in Missouri that tweeted, "Social media is like a gun. Smart people will use it as a useful tool, not-so-smart people will shoot themselves in the foot with it." How true is that statement not just for athletes on social media but for everyone on social media in general. The article goes one to say that social media is a tool not a toy, nothings private on the internet, if you retweet it you own it and social media branding. The article was relevant to me because as a cross country runner at UNK we have had numerous speeches from athletic representatives about how to conduct yourself in the cyber world.  What I like most about this article though is how after it gives the four major warnings of social media it goes on to tell you what you should be posting on social media. This article was a great article to help keep the foot injuries from happening on social media.

Target Troll Proves it's All or Nothing With Corporate Social Media
By: Sharon Gaudin
http://www.computerworld.com/article/2973513/social-business/target-troll-proves-it-s-all-or-nothing-with-corporate-social-media.html

The article commented on the event of a Facebook user posing as Target and leaving sarcastic and rude comments to unhappy customers. The article suggested that Target keep a closer watch on their Facebook and other social media accounts. While I do agree with this, I think that Target is somewhat not to blame. It is incredibly easy to do a Google search of a JPEG image of a company logo, put it as your profile picture, and start posing as a different person. Sometimes Facebook encourages it by having special "Make your profile picture your celebrity doppelganger" days. The account was only online for 16 hours which shows you the big impact. I think that social media accounts should be more careful on what they allow as profile picture. Facebook workers could increase the rate of verified accounts and shut down unofficial accounts. Same goes for any company. The social media services and companies should band together to limit this problem from happening.

RGIII Denies Liking Anti-Instagram Post, Blames Intern

Yesterday (Monday) The Washington Redskins announced that Robert Griffin III would be benched in favor of then back up Kirk Cousins for the upcoming season.  Robert Griffin III had the starting quarterback spot going into the preseason, so he was obviously not happy to hear the news.  Soon after the announcement was made, a fan posted a picture to Instagram voicing his displeasure about the team.  He criticized the owners, front office, and coaching staff.  A little while later Robert Griffin III's Instagram account liked the picture.  Everyone noticed this since he was just benched by the team and it became a big story. Robert Griffin III later said that he was not the one who liked that photo, blaming an intern.  This goes to show that people can see anything you do on social media, and if you are in the national spot light, you should change your password so interns can't log on and like posts for you.
