Coming from the website cio.com, Matt Kapko states that he thinks messaging apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat are the perfect crossroads of mobile and social. With these apps transitioning into platforms by offering more services, content and mechanisms for commerce, we may see them be the new face of social in a mobile context.

This article makes a good point with communication social media platforms being the most popular. By definition, social media implies a connection to other people. When social media platforms do not have a instant messaging option I find it odd because it is there to make it easier to communicate with people. I would be interesting to see a study measuring the opinion of people between a platform with instant messaging and one without.
