Module 7 Article #3

https://www.socialmediaexplorer.com/social-media-marketing/the-future-of-social-media-hope-or-hype/

This article discusses whether the future of social media is, as the title implies, hope or hype. The author states that the expectations for the future of social media is built up on a pedestal so high that it would be very easy to see it crash and burn. He also states that with the current level of popularity many companies will end up rushing into social media, failing to meet the expectations that they've set for themselves, and abandon it all together. This will create a bunch of ghost accounts without any activity whatsoever. The future of social media is not bleak, however. The companies that are showing success with social media may be able to keep the hype train moving forward and usher in a new age of even more integrated social media. This would allow the customers to become even more immersed into the companies that they support.

  1. I can understand why the future of social media can seem a little skeptical. If companies do not take the time to plan out their social media strategies, and just jump into the "future" their attempts to gain followers or supports will not be successful. I think the take home message is to not be afraid to improve social media platforms, but do it in a careful and organized way.

  2. I wonder what will happen with social media in the future. Having a bunch of deserted sites from companies who aren't successful reminds me of Myspace, where there seems to be almost no one left anymore. Hopefully Facebook is here to stay for a while longer!
