Ethan Young - Module #1 Article 2

"How to Use Social Networking to Succeed in Business" really caught my eye because honestly, who doesn't want to succeed?  Reading the article I found some good points, as a future employee of a company it is hard to find a job on your own.  It is a lot easier to find a job when you know someone within the company that can "put in a good word" for you so your foot is already in the door, networking.  Being acquainted with friends, peers on social media sites allows you to reach out to them if you know they have a job with a company that you'd like to potentially work for, and with the click of a mouse you can network with them and start to build a relationship that will allow you to maybe find employment.  It works from a managers standpoint as well, when in the hiring process after an employee interviews you can pull up their social media profile and look into what kind of person they are outside of work; it may show you that they are not the kind of person you would like representing your company.  i thought this was a very good read and it showed me some insight as to how social networking can benefit you in the "real world".

  1. You bring up some very good points with this article. I know that I would have been less likely to get my current job had I not already known current employees working for the company. Social media does offer an outlet to make those connections whether or not you currently need them. It's always a good feeling to know that you have someone in your network who could potentially help you with getting a job one day. Great article!

  2. I also agree that it can be hard to get a job at a company without already having a foot in the door. I think social media could be a great way to do that, as long you use it in the correct way. LinkedIn is a good example of that. I also believe that people putting up inappropriate pictures on Facebook is an example of how social media can hurt your chances of getting a job.
