Lindsie Woolley Blog post 1 module 8

I knew nothing about LinkedIn before joining this class. I learned so much about it from the assignment that we did using it. By taking the time to explore and read exactly how to use the site I figured out how to use this social media as a powerful tool. I am continuing to build a social media account on LinkedIn that is professional and show cases my skills and my talents, along with my previous experiences. LinkedIn is one way to put yourself ahead of the game when looking for a job. It is also a good way to create an extensive network of professionals across many fields. Teachers are always saying in my major it’s about who you know and LinkedIn really provides an easy way to get to know more professionals.
The second thing I learned about social media during this class was cross promoting. This really just blew my mind. I use personal social media a lot but have never really used cross promotion or even really knew what it was. Cross promotion takes what you put into one social media account and multiplies it across all of the accounts that you link together. For any business this is a major win. You can take very minimal effort and maximize it across all your accounts. This also works for personal use. I personally have some family that only use Facebook and some friends who only use Instagram and I get so annoyed having to post my baby’s pictures to both places. But, with cross promotion I can just link the two accounts and when I post on Instagram it automatically posts that picture to my Facebook account for me.
I knew social media was this rapidly expanding scary thing before this class. Now I know that I shouldn’t shy away from social media because of all the negative effects it can have in my life. I need to embrace what social media can do for my and keep control on my usage as well as my posts. Just a few rules I learned in the class. 1) Everything you post on any social media can be seen even if it private so keep it classy. 2) Social media is not always the best place to voice your political views because it may get you in trouble down the road.  3) Social media can help you to get a job just as easily as it can lose you a job. 4) Keep up to date with social media because it is becoming more and more prevalent in the work place. 5) Sometimes 140 characters are all you need to say what you really mean.

Colby Wurst - Module #8, Only Post

I learned quite a bit about social media, but a couple of things I didn't know you could do were, cross promote to the extent you can, and just how much social media and politics worked together.
I know being from my generation, the latter shouldn't be a surprise to me, but it was.  I didn't know there was that much a correlation between the two.  I've already started paying closer attention to the current campaigns and it is clear that all of the candidates put a lot of emphasis on their social media campaigns.
It also surprised me that you can cross promote your social media platforms to gain more exposure.  I only have one social media platform, and haven't tried to sign up for others, so I didn't know about the cross promoting.  I think it is a great idea for businesses and individuals alike.  I also learned quite a bit about this from my NPO research as The Kearney World Theatre does an excellent job of this.
I had an almost negative view of social media at the beginning of class.  I didn't really like social media sites as they don't allow you to interact in the ultimate medium, face to face.  However I do see now that social media is a way to make new acquaintances and interact in a different way.  My view of social media has changed from a negative view to and accepting view.  I won't ever have 15 social media platforms and be on them all day, but I will probably continue to have one or two.

Module 7, Post #4

My last article come from vice.com and is titled "The Future of Social Media According to Vice by Grant Pardee. In this article, Grant Pardee states that we are seeing a trend towards more micro-communities rather than large scale blogging and broadcasting. Also, people show they like looking more at pictures and short burst of texts like Instagram and Snapchat. I can see how this is the trend now days, and it may cause Facebook and Twitter to slowly diminish in the future.

Tyler Walker Module 7 post no. 4

I chose this article because it has the topic of future of social media. However, this article was written in December of 2014 and is the prediction of social media in 2015. It is now a year later and we can make a comparison to see if the predictions came true. The author asked twenty-five different business individuals what they think will change in social media. Most of the predictions talked about the use of social media as a marketing tool. This is the prediction that has become reality for a lot of companies. This article was like a time capsule for social media because you can look back on what direction we thought social media was heading in. Now this small window of time is easier to predict over than a ten to twenty year time window. While looking for articles to fit the module’s topic I have found a wide range of predictions for social media. Social media is going to become more of a large topic for businesses.

http://www.socialmediatoday.com/content/how-web-30-will-impact-social-media-and-pr

This article discusses the impact that Web 3.0 could potentially have on the future of social media. One major way that it will be influenced is by making it so much easier to use as well as interacting with other users. This makes any member of a company a potential spokesperson if they are involved with social media. Also, since social media will become so much more immersive the ability for customers to interact with the companies that they buy from. Again, these are just predictions of what will happen with the new age of Web 3.0. What really happens will be incredibly interesting to see play out.

Nick Meyer Post 7.4

This article talks about the future of social media in the sports world.  Today, there are athletes who get in trouble for things that they post on social media. Wether thats Robert Griffin III posting bad things about his coach and team or Johnny Manziel getting in trouble from his coach for posting pictures of partying during the season, there is no real way to control it.  This article predicts that in time, sports franchises will determine rules and guidelines that are in their players' contracts to keep them in line.

Module 7 Article #4

Google is working on a new Android service that will make thousands of people happy. This is called a DataSaver which cuts down on ads which take away from your data plans. This will surely make people happy as this will cut down on bills from people whom go over their data plan and clears up room for people who need to do more searching on their plan. Your phone will only show ads as blocks while it will reveal the text. This is set to be a great feature for Android users.

Module 7- Article 4

For my final article I chose to do one that talks about what to expect from social media in the future.  When Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of Facebook to that becoming a 200 billion dollar industry look how far we've come already.  With Facebook acquiring programs like Instagram and Whatsapp they are the clear front runner with Twitter closing the gap.  Social media has changed the way we hear about important events; with videos on your news feed to podcasts showing up it's hard to imagine what they'll come up with next.

Brady Vieth Module 7 Post 4

The article below talks about 5 predictions that they see by 2020 for social media. They are social media makes big data even bigger, mobile and entertainment will morph, marketing programs will reintegrate, content marketing will grow, and the power of your network will deliver. It is crazy to think about 2020 already, but I think that they make some good points especially with with how mobile and entertainment will morph. Technology is constantly changing and will always do so, so it will be interesting to see what the future holds.

Module 7 - Post 4 Briana Pontious

http://www.cio.com/article/2984924/social-networking/facebook-drives-increase-in-social-media-satisfaction.html

I chose this article because I really like how it talks about how much all these advancements and improvements companies are making for their social networking sites actually pays off. This article says that just within the last two years, consumer satisfaction reviews for social networking sites have climbed tremendously and put them with the top industries, whereas just two years ago they were categorized with the bottom three industries. So people may criticize that social networking is evolving too much and becoming too advanced, but by the looks of it, everyone likes it a lot better.

Alex Obermier Module 7 post 4

In the last article that I found it talks about the evolving of web 3.0. First off there was web 1.0, which was the start of internet and being able to surf the web. Next came web 2.0 which most of us are familiar with. This brought out faster surfing, control, more social, and just all around a better experience for the user. Now web 3.0 is brings more to the table. Web 3.0 markets to the user and bring them to what they are more interested in to their profiles. It knows where you go and can suggest since you got this you may like this. This is basically taking each and everyone who uses the internet and sets up a target market for them. I think it is pretty cool how web 1.0 started off a just a search engine basically, now web 3.0 is fitting to you.

This document talked about a really interesting idea, and it kind of goes along with artificial intelligence! This article focuses on Twitter and how Web 3.0 will play a large part with the technology behind it. What it will be doing is weighing tweets and then matching them to interests of the people who follow the tweeter. So another way to say this is Web 3.0 will be able to tell which tweets you would like without you even reading them.

The author describes how this will be doing similar things to what a brain does. When two cranial neurons fire at the same time in the same location then that creates a bond and a relationship, which will strengthen with more simultaneous firings. So if neuron A fires at the same time or similar time as B then the next time A fires there is a good change that B will too. The more times they fire together the stronger the relationship is. This is the concept that Web 3.0 wants to bring to twitter. It will weigh tweets that you have liked in the past and weighs tweets that you haven't seen in the present moment, and if it is something that you would retweet, it does it for you without you even needing to read it. Thats amazing!

Nick Meyer Post 7.3

This article talks about the future of social media with regards to education.  It states that the future is to have Personal Learning Networks that help people share their ideas and knowledge with others, to create an environment full of learning.  This sounds a lot different than the social media platforms of today where there are mainly just videos people doing funny (or stupid) things.

Brady Vieth Module 7 Post 3

Something that caught my eye in this article right away was that it stated that there is over 100 hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute. It also stated that only about 32.77% of people have regular access to the Internet. I found this interesting because I thought this number would be 60-65% with how popular social media is. Looking to the future the article talks about how people can expect to have more control over settings and profiles on social media accounts. This will make users happy because everyone wants to personalize their account page.

David Krumland Module 7 Post 3

http://thesocialmediamonthly.com/web-3-0-facebook-graph-search-bing-what-it-means-for-brands/

This is yet another awesome way that Web 3.0 is improving shopping. Facebook and Bing are partners and something that they are offering now with Web3.0 is a "Graph search." With a Graph search when you search for a type of store or product the top result isn't the biggest or the most numerous store or even who pays the most for the top spot, it is the business or organization that has the most likes on Facebook! On top of that because Facebook and Bing are partners, if Facebook doesn't have information about the stores, it expands to Bing which is even broader.

By refining searches to this, small shops that are not big or as well know as franchises are able to get more recognition, and more customers. This benefits both Facebook and the consumers because 1. the customers get the favorite places and the places with better products because more approval from people (aka likes on Facebook) will push them to the top of searches, and 2. because it emphasizes to companies and organizations the importance to push their business onto Facebook and use that as means for advertisement and business.

Chance Bila- Module 7, Post #4

This article for my fourth and final post discusses the technologies that will be shaping the future of social media sites. one techolonogy that seemed extremely appealing was that of optical pattern recognition and augmented reality. In the article, an example is used describing a technology that scans and displays social media pages of people you are in the room with. I was just thinking how interesting that could be to run a scan and instantly view a persons Facebook page instead of getting up and introducing yourself.

Chris Fakkema, Module 7, Blog #4

This article is very interesting, the author refers to social media and the Internet as a growing lake. According to the article, social media giants like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc., are like speedboats, creating enormous waves in the lake. The waves that these social media giants are producing significant change throughout the lake, and almost nothing stays stagnant.  The Internet is changing on a daily basis, and for the most part, it is due to giant social media platforms. Users of the internet are being forced to adapt to the changes, and as the Internet continues to change, so will the habits of its users.

Module 7 Haley Houtwed Post #3

Yahoo is making their website, messenger, and email system more mobile compatible. They are making it easier to upload pictures, make emojis, and GIFs. The first one that they want to work at would be the Messenger because people want a way to send quick messages to their friends and family fast. Yahoo updating their mobile browers seems like they are behind most other major companies in making things mobile friendly. It seems like Yahoo is trying to keep up in order to stay relevant in the community.

Module 7 Article #3

https://www.socialmediaexplorer.com/social-media-marketing/the-future-of-social-media-hope-or-hype/

This article discusses whether the future of social media is, as the title implies, hope or hype. The author states that the expectations for the future of social media is built up on a pedestal so high that it would be very easy to see it crash and burn. He also states that with the current level of popularity many companies will end up rushing into social media, failing to meet the expectations that they've set for themselves, and abandon it all together. This will create a bunch of ghost accounts without any activity whatsoever. The future of social media is not bleak, however. The companies that are showing success with social media may be able to keep the hype train moving forward and usher in a new age of even more integrated social media. This would allow the customers to become even more immersed into the companies that they support.

Alex Obermier Module 7 Post 3

On my third article I found it talks about the importance of social media for marketing, sales, and customer service. It states that companies who are failing in these areas are not using their full potential and being as profitable as they could be. Social media is the easiest and best way to connect with others. On social media sites you can get direct contact with individuals to show them what your company can offer. The future will continue to revolve more and more about social media.

Module 7-Article 3

For my third post I chose to look at this article because it really made some good points about how much social media has changed marketing.  It used to be so simple, you made an Ad then it published on the TV and Radio and that was it.  But now with social media you have to be sure your advertisements are on those sites so users can see your Ad.  If you're newcomer to the block in the market place then you need really get on the ball as far as marketing goes on social media.

Module 7, Post #3

My third article comes from socialmediaweek.org and is titled "Facebook Live the Future of Social Media. In this article, Mathew Slavica writes about how social media is becoming more of a live event. He says that live is the future of social media and that 2015 will be known as the year of live streaming video on social media. Having this live feed leads to Facebook increasing their fan base and newsfeed.

Tyler Walker Module 7 post no 3

This article is similar to the first article I posted. They are predicting what social media will be in the next ten to fifteen years. However, this article takes a more realistic approach to their predictions. Unlike the first article this one has predictions from a single person. The author talks about how social media has grown rapidly over the last few years. There is a large percent of people using social media and it is only going to increase. One of the large factors of social media’s future is what new technology comes out in the next ten years. Depending on what technology is made shapes what social media can and can not do. It will be interesting to see how technology and social media advance one another.
